Nordic Blading - a great way
to keep fit or develop your Cross-country Skating technique
Nordic Blading is a highly effective cardiovascular fitness
exercise. Safe, fun and enjoyable, this exercise is new to the UK, and Heathley - as the UK's only Instructor and Head Coach
- is pioneering its development. Take a session with Heathley to experience a new way of skating, or a course to
develop your Nordic Blading or Rollerskiing technique to advanced levels.
An excellent way of keeping fit all year round without purchasing
lots of equipment - the new fitness sport that uses Inline Skates and poles. Nordic Blading is fun, easy to learn and, as
it uses Inline Skates, is exhilerating yet safe (with the aid of a heel brake).
Do you not have Inline Skating / Rollerblading experience,
but would like to learn? No problem. Basic, safe skating skills will be taught to complete beginners new to this sport,
who will then progress to using the poles to increase forward momentum. Those with experience will start with poles straight
away. Alternatively, please contact my recommended Partner - Skatefresh - who provide Rollerblading lessons in London.
Nordic Blading is an extremely beneficial way of exercising both the upper and lower body, whilst having fun on Inline Skates or Rollerblades,
and will appeal to seasoned skaters, Rollerskiers, or those with no prior Inline Skating or Rollerblading experience.
The technique is similar to the Skating style of Cross-country Skiing, however it is suitable for people who do not ski but wish to develop their fitness further, mainly
as an ideal extension from Nordic Walking or Inline Skating/Rollerblading. Using shoulder-height,
lightweight poles, the sport is a safe and exhilarating way of keeping fit, using any tarmac as the main surface
to skate on.
Helmet (bicycle), gloves, knee and elbow pads are worn
at all times, and the heel brake on the skates enables you to enjoy Nordic Blading safely. As part of a Beginner's
course you'll learn the basic techniques of Nordic Blading, following a proven 7 Steps method, including:
- Health and fitness benefits;
- Equipment review;
- Safe skating;
- Use of poles;
- Range of movements;
- Active footwork;
- Skate 1 technique;
- Skate 2 technique;
- Skate 3 technique;
- 'Classic' technique;
- Freeskate, including simulating 'Alpine Skiing';
- Transitions;
- Warm-ups and stretching.
A Beginner's course (3 x 1.5 hour classes) will provide you with all the skills, techniques and knowledge
necessary to Nordic Blade competently, maximising your Nordic Fitness fun! An Intermediate course will develop your
technique and introduce you to more advanced movements. See above text for the content of a course. A 2 hour advanced
class is £25 p/p.

Rollerskiing is good practice for on-snow Cross-country Skiing, and is also an effective way of keeping fit. In
either the Skating or Classic technique, Rollerskiing can take place anywhere with suitable tarmac, although instruction is
provided on tracks and cycleways.
Using special skis, boots and poles (Nordic Blading poles are acceptable), you can learn or practice your skiing safely, learning all the various movements
appropriate to the Skating or Classic techniques.
